The hotel is located in the heart of the most prestigious area of Paris: the Place Vendôme. Nestled amid the city’s most luxurious jewellery and fashion designer boutiques, it is only a few minutes’ walk from the Opera House, the main department stores, the Louvre Museum, the Tuileries and the Place de la Concorde. Housed in two elegant Haussmann-style town houses, joined by a central arcade lined with display cases representing 125 of Paris's leading boutiques, the Ritz Hotel is one of the world’s most exclusive hotels. The lobby offers elegance and splendour, with high ceilings, huge chandeliers and exceptional antique paintings and furnishings. Some find the décor off-puttingly rococo, but there’s no denying the peerless sense of luxury it conjures up, or the standard of service made possible by having at least two members of staff assigned to each guest. Though some of the 175 guestrooms are surprisingly small, each one is uniquely decorated, most with Louis XIV or XV reproductions. They all feature fine rugs, marble fireplaces, tapestries and brass beds. The spacious bathrooms are the city's most luxurious, with deluxe toiletries, sumptuous tubs, scales, private phones and cords to summon maids and valets. The hotel offers a myriad of dining options, their quality ensure by the fact that the Ritz also houses the famed Escoffier cookery school. The "L’Espadon" restaurant features a vast trompe l’oeil ceiling, and serves inventive, authentic cuisine prepared with verve by the award-winning chef Mark Roth. One of the most exclusive meeting places in the city, the "Bar Vendôme" features rich wood panelling and wine-red divans. In the evening guests can enjoy piano music while looking out onto the hotel’s floodlit gardens. Tables are also set out in the gardens at the first sign of summer. Named in tribute to the American author, who claimed to have personally liberated it in 1944, the "Bar Hemingway" serves mouth-watering tapas and beer from all over the world. Guests can peruse 25 photos taken by Hemingway while relaxing in the cream leather armchairs. Above all, though, this is the place to enjoy the famous original cocktails invented by the great Colin Field, named world’s best barman in 2001. Lastly, the Ritz’s health club features the finest pool in Paris and 1700 square metres of the most advanced health facilities in a setting recalling the baths of Ancient Greece and Rome, with frescoes and colonnades.
